FRIENDS OF THE LA HABRA LIBRARY
WHO ARE THE FRIENDS?
The Friends of the La Habra Library, formed in 1965 as a volunteer organization, was created to encourage citizens to support library programs and services through volunteer and financial support. La Habra’s current library was built a year after the organization’s formation, thanks in part to gifts and benefactions fostered by the “Friends.” In its early years, the principal source of income to the Friends was the sale of donated books at the library’s semi-annual book sale.
In 1980, the Friends reorganized, by-laws were adopted, and a group of volunteers formed a Board of Directors. The library was expanded and subsequently one of the rooms was made available for the Friends to use as a bookstore for donated books, magazines, DVDs and CDs.
The organization acts as an advocate to the city and county to improve the library’s services and facilities. The Friends of the La Habra Library is a group of dedicated citizens who want to help the library provide the best possible service to the La Habra community. The Friends support all of the programs offered to children, teens and adults such as the summer reading program, after school tutoring program and the Teen Advisory Board.
Although the Library is supported by county property taxes and city funds, an excellent library needs more than taxpayer support. Please join the Friends of the Library and show your support.
If you would like to join us, a membership form is printable from the Volunteer Page.
